Many homeowners become confused and rather intimidated by the idea of installing sinks. The process isn’t really as complicated as it may seem to be. In fact, the hardest part of installing a new sink is selecting a sink that fits your style. Everything else is pretty much straightforward and easy to follow. Before making any purchases you will first need to make accurate measurements to ensure that your new sink will fit into your countertop. The following measurements should be taken from front to back or back to front. A twenty two inch sink will fit in a twenty for inch countertop without a backsplash. If you countertop does have a backsplash then only sinks that are twenty and a half inches will fit.
After you have bought sinks that will fit into your countertop the next step is cutting a hole into your countertop. You can pick up a template from your local hardware store. Simply place the template about an inch and a half back from the countertop’s front edge and trace a line around the template. Before making any cuts you will need to make four holes one in each corner. Use a drill and a drill bit size isn’t all that important as long as it is larger than the saw’s blade. Make sure that any excess holes are on the inside of the lines you traced out. To avoid your counter top from breaking you will need to support the cutting area so it won’t fall through. You can secure it by screwing a scrap piece of wood from the front to the back of the top of the cutout area that spans over the opening a few inches.
